While health is my main area of expertise, I am deep in the Entrepreneurship game. I run my own business and good deal of the people I work closely with are Entrepreneurs and Business Owners as well. That’s why I want to share with you 5 books that changed my mindset and elevated my game.
Profit First: Mike Michalowicz
Many Entrepreneurs and Business Owners are learning as they go and for a while doing it all on their own. That’s why I love this book, it really helps you manage one of the most important parts of your business, the profit.
Through Michalowicz’s behavioral approach to accounting and his new and improved formula: Sales - Profit = Expenses, he teaches you how to transform your business from a cash eating monster to a money making machine. It simplifies accounting, making it easier to manage a profitable business.
“When less money is available to run your business, you will find ways to get the same or better results with less. By taking your profit first, you will be forced to think smarter and innovate more.”
-Mike Michalowicz
The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity:
Edwene Gaines
The goal of this book is to help you achieve a life of true prosperity where you can enjoy many things like a healthy body, fulfilling relationships, work you love and money you can spend.
On its face this doesn’t seem like a business book, but I promise Edwene Gaines hits on 4 laws that you can apply anywhere in your life. I apply these four laws in almost every area of my life and it has helped me grow into a healthy and success business owner and person.
“Perhaps you've been brought up to believe that money is evil. Perhaps you were taught the myth of noble poverty--that good people don't dream about wealth and prosperity, because doing so is greedy. As a result, part of you chooses to remain poor, and your life feels constrained and unfulfilled. You may have a sense that your dreams will never be achieved, and you live with the fear that life is passing you by.”
-Edwene Gaines
Never Split the Difference: Chris Voss
Chris Voss had a really unique back story. After spending time as a police officer he joined the FBI, where he was a hostage negotiator that came face-to-face with a variety of criminals like bank robbers and terrorists. He then went on to become the FBI’s lead international kidnapping negotiator and this book give you an inside look of what he learned.
All successful Entrepreneurs have to be good at negotiating and it’s a skill that is uncomfortable to master for many (especially in the beginning). That’s why this books teaching of critical negotiation skills makes it a must-read for anyone in this industry. The fact that it’s super interesting is just an added bonus.
“To get real leverage, you have to persuade them that they have something concrete to lose if the deal falls through.”
-Chris Voss
The E-myth Revisited: Michael Gerber
Whether you own a small business, are working on a side-hustle or day dream about being a successful Entrepreneur, you have to start somewhere. Gerber does a great job of debunking common myths about starting your own business while pointing out the assumptions many of us make that can get in the way of successfully running a business.
If you don’t want to work in your business forever then you need to start working on your business now. This book has sold over two million copies and it’s clear to me why. Michael Gerber is a legend for this one
“What you do in your model is not nearly as important as doing what you do the same way, each and every time.”
-Michael Gerber
The Go-Giver: Bob Burg and John David Mann
Through the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success, this book tells a story of an ambitious man names Joe and his journey to understand the power of giving. With a little help from his newfound friends, he learns that putting others’ interests first and adding value to their lives leads to unexpected returns.
If you only read one book on this list, I’d recommend that it’s this one. It humanizes business while giving entrepreneurs clarity on what actually matters. Shoutout Bob Burg and John David Mann
“Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.”
-The Go-Giver
Honorable Mention-
The Pumpkin Plan: Mike Michalowicz
Another great read by Mike Michalowicz. After an unexpected source of business inspiration, he came up with the Pumpkin Plan and tested it out on his own company which he transformed into a multimillion-dollar industry leader.
The Pumpkin Plan guides you through unconventional strategies that will help you build a profitable business that is top in it’s industry. A great read for all business owners that feel like they’re lacking something in their plan.
If you are an Entrepreneur or have been considering the field, please remember that your health should be one of your main focuses. You work extremely long days while pushing your mind and body more and more everyday. If you don’t have a good diet, movement plan and breathing technique you will experience burnout… probably more than you should to be honest.
I’d also like to invite you to take part in my 3-Day Solid Food Vacation Juice Feast for free. It’s a great way to clean your gut which is more often than not the main cause of dis-ease. Many of my previous feasters including myself have experienced a decrease in brain fog, decrease in anxiety, Increase in mental clarity and focus, better sleep and way more energy — All things Entrepreneurs would benefit from.
